Dang, I should have looked this up first. In my yard if I get fungus I know I have to raise the pH level I so I was using the same ratio with vinegar… can I still use the hydrogen peroxide method or is it too late?

Thank you, Yolanda! After a major cut back two years ago, my rosebush is finally blooming again and there’s lots of blooms on there. And I wanted to know how to cut a few to bring them inside and your video helped me a lot! I can’t wait to go out and bring a few of them in to enjoy! also, I had a question. This bush was here when I moved to this house. And it had not been trimmed properly and had long scraggly stems with lavender roses on it. And the first year I cut it back some, but it didn’t bloom as well. So that’s why two years ago I cut it way back, like 6 inches above the ground. And as I said last year, nothing came out, but it kept growing and growing and finally this year it’s full of blooms, but the blooms are a deep red instead of the lavender that the long scraggly ones were! Any reason why this bush might’ve changed colors? Thank you again, Julia , Laurel, Mississippi.

I’m sorry but that just makes no sense at all. If your soil is decomposing then it is fully alive. If the microbes are alive than so are the weed seeds. There is no way your soil will get hot more than the top 1/2”. Strawberry farmers get the closest to sterilizing soil as possible. They do that by covering than gassing the soil with methyl bromide. Covering you soil with plastic for half a year is a waisted effort. I’m really sorry to be so pessimistic about your approach. I just don’t think we should be putting out untested information as being anything other than an opinion or experiment. Regardless I wish you happy growing with or without the plastic sheet.

I have NEVER gotten any "volunteers" from my Butterfly bush. Not a single one and I did look. It finally died after over 20 years. It probably was a lot older than 20, but that is when I moved into my present location. I want one that will in fact reseed readily (preferably without my help) so I don't have to buy another one ever again and I can have babies to give away. What varieties are good for this? Supposedly they are invasive so maybe I got one of the politically correct, neutered ones? The hysteria over these things would have to go back quite a while for that to be the case as that would have been the Turn Of The Century. Do they need another butterfly bush of a different variety like apple trees do to produce viable seed? Maybe that was my problem. No others were around in the neighborhood I know of. I would like some of the natural ones from China. I have not been able to nail down what exact words I need to ask for to get such seed or mature or immature specimen.

Not an impressive video. I built a concrete rock waterfall with my father. We had wire/w concrete overlay runnels for water flow leading down to the rock. Of course the base was block with REBAR and concrete. You do not skimp when spending so much time, energy and money on such a labor intensive project. We added a front U shaped area for plants with drainage, all above ground in the outer rim of the waterfall. We had a spigot to drain the waterfall which would irrigate/deep water a row of in ground plants every 3 days and rinse it out, that was how we kept the waterfall clean. For your background you claim, one would expect a ton more of information than what we novices sadly received.

@EHOWGARDEN VERY BAD ADVICE. I realize this video is 10 years old, but hopefully this will help someone that stumbles upon it. Dill SHOULD NEVER be planted with tomatoes. Dill attracts the tomato horn worm, which destroys tomato plants. Additionally, when dill reaches maturity, it releases chemical compounds that stop the growth of tomato plants. Why show "how" to do something that is detrimental?
